From the shop owner

We’ve always loved beer. Before establishing The Urchin Pub in Hove, Nick worked for Little Creatures Brewery in Australia and business partner, Austen worked in Belgium, pouring some of the best, original craft beers. When we started The Urchin in 2015, we maintained well over 100 bottles from all over the World. A year later, when the pub became fully independent, we began brewing our own beer.

We called the brewery Larrikin, which is an Australian name for a cheeky kid or street urchin. Since then we’ve grown a little bit each year but we remain very small, producing only around 500 litres / week. That’s just enough to maintain 4-5 taps in the pub and a bit more to put into cans. The great thing about producing at this level is that our beer is always super fresh. We generally package on a Wednesday morning and start delivering in the afternoon, which means you can have beer in your glass that started the day in the fermenter. It also means that we can experiment with new beers every week.

We’re passionate about our local area, doing what we can to help make this a great place to live and offering something that you won’t find anywhere else. We’re excited about serving and working with people who have a similar vision. Hope you enjoy!

Why we love

I love a business that begins with a pure unabated passion. And if there's one thing that always benefits from a dash of infatuation, it's beer. From their independent pub, The Urchin, Nick and Austen produce enough beer to keep Brighton locals happy.

Brewing weekly means you are treated to the freshest beer. And you get to take advantage of any new beer experiments they may have brewed up that week. They offer up a whole pub-worthy selection of beer that can be delivered directly to your own front door. Cheers to that! And it doesn't stop there, you can even treat the beer-lover in your life (or just yourself, because you're worth it) to a bit of Larrikin merchandise. Choose from beautifully branded pint glasses, schooners and T-shirts. And for those that can't decide, there's also a handy digital gift-card option. That's literally every beer base covered. Go and take a look!
