Kitsch Fish

From the shop owner

Kitsch Fish Studio uses vintage 50s and 60s moulds to reproduce mid-century mermaid and nautical chalkware wall plaques. Some of the current designs include Hula mermaids, Frida Kahlo, Tretchikoff inspired mermaids, seahorses and merbabies. Each wall plaque is lovingly moulded, sanded, primed and hand painted by Hannah McInnes in her home studio. Kitsch Fish was set up by Hannah after a lifetime of hoarding kitsch vintage ornaments and being mermaid obsessed (Hannah previously founded and organised Brighton’s March of the Mermaids event).

Why we love

Kitsch Fish

I absolutely love Kitsch Fish! It is the fish-tailed embodiment of what Brighton Unwrapped is all about!

Who knew that there was someone out there painstakingly making original mid-century mermaid wall plaques?! Nothing makes me happier than discovering a pure piece of handcrafted Brighton magic.
